The sale of alcohol is allowed in Los Remedios during the April Fair in Seville

In a significant change from previous years, during the days of the April Fair of Seville 2024 no bans will be imposed on the sale of alcohol or ice in food establishments and supermarkets in the neighborhood of Los Remedios and areas near the fairgrounds. This decision breaks with the restrictions implemented in previous editions, which aimed to avoid the phenomenon of the bottle.

After receiving numerous complaints about the limitations imposed in Los Remedios in previous years, The City Council has chosen to maintain the same sales and opening regulations for hospitality and commerce that govern the rest of the year. This decision has been made in consensus with the main associations in the sector, who have expressed their support for this measure.

According to sources from the City Council, previous restrictions failed to reduce the problem of alcohol consumption on public roads during the Fair, but they did unfairly affect the residents of Los Remedios, those who could not purchase products that the rest of the Sevillians could freely obtain. Also, It was observed that the areas without restrictions were as close as those that did have them.

In this regard, The City Council considers that the solution to alcohol consumption on public roads does not lie in penalizing compliant merchants and neighbors., but in prosecuting offenders. For this, The Local Police will intensify surveillance around the Fair to prevent overflowing bottles and the irregular operation of establishments, especially those who sell alcohol to minors, which will be closed in case of non-compliance.

During these days, The neighborhood and merchant associations of Los Remedios have been informed of these measures through CECOP, with the firm commitment of the government and police authorities to guarantee its compliance.

This means that Restrictions imposed in previous years will not apply, which generated great discomfort among neighbors and merchants, even preventing the sale of juices or milk after four in the afternoon in some cases. These measures, implemented in the management of former mayor Antonio Muñoz, They were made more flexible last year, although limitations persisted such as the prohibition of the sale of alcohol and ice from the 4:30 in the afternoon during the Fair 2023.
